Meet the SMCU team
St Mary's Christian Union doesn't just happen. There is a team of people working behind the scenes (and sometimes in front) to make things happen. If you want to ask any questions, get involved, get some advice, make any suggestions or even make a new friend, these are the people to know!

Jennie Hoy
Hello! My name is Jennie Hoy and I have recently joined the CU committee. I am 18 years old and in my first year of studying Physical Theatre with Drama. I am from Leeds and very happy to be representing the north of England on the committee! A little about me...I have been learning Flamenco Dancing for 6 years, I support Leeds Utd, I love Romania, and my favourite colour is turquoise! My hope for the CU at St Mary's is that we will reveal God's compassion in all that we do. |
Kate Cook
Hello, I'm Kate and I am part of the CU leadership team this year. Some interesting facts about myself I'm 19 years old and I come from the beautiful city of Hereford in Herefordshire. I am currently in the third year studying Theology combined with Geography. Although I have been going to church all my life, I wouldn't say that I have always been a Christian. It wasn't until about the age of 16 that I realised and began to understand what being a Christian and living my life for Christ was all about. My responsibilities within the CU leadership team include organising our hot chocolate events, our book lending scheme and publicity. I have also been entrusted the role of Web Master, which means I deal with all things computer related (e-mails, updating the website etc). My hope for this year is that as a CU we will be a reflection of God's love and that we will be able to bring the love of Christ to all at St Mary's. |

Victor Kpodo
Hello, my name is Victor. I'm a second year studying Sport's Science with Health, Nutrition and Exercise. I'm 1/4 of the Christian Union (CU) committee for this year. I've been a Christian for about a year and a half. My wish for the CU this year, as well as the next two years or more I spend here, is that the rest of the college will come to a real understanding about who we are and what we believe and that any misconceptions and myths people hold will really be laid aside. Also, I want us as a CU to have a real positive influence here in the college and the area as a whole. I want us to move beyond being just another club/society but really become agents of positive change and a real light to everyone we meet and everywhere we go. So, if you haven't met us yet or come to any of our meetings, feel free to come along: Tuesdays 7pm in the Tartan bar, and keep your eyes open for notices and events, because we are gonna be pretty busy in the coming years. Anyway, hope to CU soon! (Excuse the pun!) |
Libby Main
Hello! My name's Libby and this year I'm CU President - how very exciting! I'm positive that God's got some amazing stuff planned this year in all of our lives and I can't wait to see what it'll be! So far this year we've had a pretty packed time and we hope to build on the steady foundations left to us by previous committees to further glorify God and bring Him to prominence on the Campus! But we can't do any of this without God's grace, and I thank Him that He looks down on the, to be fair, pretty rubbish things we do, (compared to the great stuff that He's capable of!) and gives us strength! And power! And motivation! And if God's motivating you to get more involved this year then just say the word, because we'd love to talk to you!
