The Group
As mentioned on the homepage, SMCU is the Christian Union at St Mary's University College, Strawberry Hill. We are a non-denominational, student-run group who meets to learn about God, to praise Him, to support each other and to reach others with the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ.

What We Do
We have a range of different meetings going on throughout the week.
The main meeting takes place every Tuesday night at 7pm for around an hour and a half. These meetings are different every week and so you need to keep up-to-date with what's going on! The programme is very varied and includes talks, discussions, socials and worship.
We also have four prayer meetings each week at lunchtime in the Crypt. At the College Prayer Meetings, we pray for issues around campus. At the Current Affairs Prayer Meeting we pray for world events. At the other two, we meet to pray for each other, sharing stuff we'd like to ask for and thank God for. Look on the THIS WEEK page for the timings and for which ones are on what days.
There's a Bible study too,day and time to be arranged
We hope to see you at some of the events. For more specific details regarding the activites, please see the THIS WEEK page.
What We Believe
We'll try and give a quick overview of Christianity as we see it here. Obviously, we can't say everything that needs to be said, but we hope this is helpful. Basically, we were created to have perfect relationship with God but we broke that relationship and chose to live our own way. We have offended God by our rebellion and selfishness so, therefore, cannot spend eternity with Him in Heaven when we die. Instead, we must be rightly punished for the sins (actions against God) we've committed. BUT... God loves us and wants us to be with Him forever in paradise and so He created a plan for how to save us from this judgment. He is a supremely just God and so someone MUST pay the price for our sin. So, God sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to die in place of us and take the punishment that is rightfully ours. We swap places with Jesus! This means that if we choose to accept Him as Lord, then when we die, God promises to view our sins as already having been punished in Jesus, and see His perfection as if WE were perfect! So we're free to enjoy a restored relationship with God right now and then be with Him in Heaven forever when we die! If this has raised any questions for you, or you'd like to find out more, please get in contact with us. We'd be more than happy to explain stuff to you.
